Hello all.
I have been following this forum for about...maybe nine years now?lol. I have a 1990 toy truck that I have had for about fifteen years now...but in the last seven years it has been in a state of non derivable due to me blowing the rear end back then. I even have a All Pro solid kit and an '85 front axle along with new gears and lockers I have been storing all these years too...yep I have been procrastinating on the toy project a little <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
Well now I'm getting the bug to fix the rear end up.I'm getting tired of watching my cash get blown out of the tail pipe on my tahoe. A few years ago I actually set out to fix her up...bought new stock gears and such but had a hard time pressing the bearing on the carrier without the proper tool.Very expensive lesson.
What I'm getting at is besides ordering up a whole new diff and having spare parts...is there anyone in the the Ca. bay area that can help me out? Off course services will be paid for. This is just to set up the stock gears with a lock-right locker not the All Pro kit.Ill get to the kit in due time lol.
Any who, glad to see some of the original members still posting and seeing new blood also.Tho it's been years sense working on the toy I am pretty knowledgeable about the workings of one and will chime in when I can.
O ya, she fired right up today too once the battery had a charge. Can beat these Toyota's for nothing <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
Thanks,
Cell

All sounds like alot of work. Just get a good used diff and plug it in the rear and go. Here's a few V6 4.10 geared diffs I found. IF you have 4.10 gears anyway. 1989 Carrier Toyota Truck C F01182 $125 Eckert & Sons Auto Parts USA-TX(Stonewall) E-mail 1-800-950-8014 1989 Carrier Toyota Pickup/Stout 6/89,3.0L,5SP,BASE K166 $75 Cousineau Recycling USA-WI(Antigo) E-mail 1-866-330-3730

Thanks for the replies. After thinking about it popping in a complete third in is starting to make more sense. My truck is a auto trans so it has some odd size ring and pinion...actually I can't remember the size I have to go check the new gears labels. I remember back then that Randy's ring and pinion was all the rage and had a good reputation. I'm assuming that hasn't changed?
Still open for more suggestions.

With an Auto trans, most likely a 4.30 ratio. See 4Crawlers web site on how to determine your stock ratio.

My bad, looks like 4.30 isn't even a stock selection for 1990, looks more like a 4.56 ratio.

Cell The only odd size ring and pinion is 4.88's.... if you have factory 4.88's you can only replace with R&P with factory 4.88's. If you want to use aftermarket gears, you need to get a "regular" differential pumpkin.

My vin code is G252. This site http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech/toyota-differential-identification-18588.html is saying I have 4:56 gears stock. The vin tag also says tire size is 275/75...which I think is 31" if I remember right. Crap...I think I ordered the wrong gears a while back lol.I'll have to take a look at them to check for sure. O ok, 4.56 you can replace with any gear. Randy's is still good, but marlin crawler and trail-gear are only toyota guys and it's nice to support the toyota aftermarket industry.

Thanks, I forgot about Marlin. Like I said it's been a real long time sense I thought about the truck lol. I see Engine Builder is still here. Looking in the garage I seen my old 22-re cam which reminded me of him.
