my 1998 kia sportage quit running on me and i cant figure it out. Getting spark and fuel, but it cranks but doesnt even try to start.Here is what ive done. Timimg is correct.replaced wires and plugs. replaced cam and crank sensor. replaced fuel regulator. fuel pump is working. Even when i spray ether it wont even try to start. i am at a loss. can anyone help me? I am about to junk it. it started a couple weeks ago being hard to start, but now wont do it at all.

Have you checked all of your fuses? Mine is hard to start sometimes. Also check the ground wire again. It might be something simple.

when you say you spray where are you straying ? how are you checking spark? are you spraying fuel into the intake ? there is a breather on the intake you could try there, how do you know fuel from the pump is getting to the plugs ? check all fuses, have you washed the motor lately or went through water ?
2001 5sp. K&N stock filter 215/70/15
If your check engine light is on at least you know the light still works

found the issue. Checked compression and have about 80 lbs on number 1 and about 40 on 2 , 3 and 4. Looks like somehow when my boy was driving it he blew the headgasket. weird though, no water in the oil, but i figure the head is warped to have 3 of the 4 with low compression.

drain the rad in a new clean drain pan see if it has any oil in it. have not check prices lately, ebay has head re-builders, seems weird all are low with not oil, even the 80 on #1 is low, I think normal is about 180, is yours 180 and not 80 ?

I would carefully check the timing-belt again before I removed the head. Cam timing could cause your low compression.
