Thinking about 89/90/91 4door again... #1027718 05/05/11 07:30 PM

Had a couple 4dr's in the past, a 90 and a 91. Really really like the gen 1.

So I'm getting Monty fever again and I've been scouring the US for a low mileage gen1. Found one about 500 miles away with 92k and another about 800 miles away with 98k. The latter seems to have been babied and is in great shape.

What I'd like input on is, am I crazy. I don't work on them myself and worry about parts availability, so looking for thoughts on buying something this old.

I'm ok if I have to put another engine in at some point but wondered about the day to day repairs. Anyway just wondering what you think ... thanks!

What I miss...my '90 and '91 Montero's, but the Jeep's are cool.

Body Damage is Cool
These were my thoughts over a year ago when I bought mine. since then I have done brakes, shocks, fluid services, seals, etc... not had an issue finding anything. The only 2 things I have notice is replacment carpeting and headliners seem to be no existent, but you can go to an upholstry shop and get something made. All other parts seem to findable.

Thanks for the reply.

I've decided full steam ahead to find the perfect gen1 4-door. Looking for a pristine Monty, in and out, under 150k miles that I'll keep forever (I'm old enough to say that : )

If anyone has or sees on like this, please let me know. I'm not too concerned about location or price (within reason). Just looking for that gem that someone has and decides to sell.

Thanks...
