When my 22re warms up it sounds like the timing chain is scraping against the timing cover. I have replaced the chain, guides, and tensioner twice in the last year. Both kits came from my local Advance Auto Parts store. It seems like the tensioner just isnt doing its job once the engine warms up. Should i have just ordered the tensioner and chain from Toyota? Could it just be that the tensioners and chains from Advance just are cheap junk? I feel like i shouldve just ordered them from Toyota. Is there a big difference in factory toyota tensioners and aftermarket ones? Thanks for the help!!

Sure you've got all the TC cover bolts in the right place? Long one in a short spot will get hit. Any signs of chain wear on the cover?

Are you using a torque wrench when installing the parts? Ted said that it doesn't take a ton of force to distort the tensioner body and lock it up so it can't to it's job. It's a very low torque spec IIRC.

Yeah i did use a torque wrench installing the bolts. THe tensioner bolts are only supposed to be around 12 lbs. Also, i thought at first that i may have had one of the bolts for the oil pump in the wrong place, but i went back and checked and they're all in the right spots. There is a little wear on the timing cover, but its where the guides broke the first time.

My O.P. is around 60 psi when cold, but it drops to about 20 psi after it warms up.
