anybody here have any experience with the charging system on 1986 trooper diesel? the problem im having is occasionally my idiot light would blink or intermittently come on then off,as it would do this you could hear a relay under dash somewhere clicking as light would do its thing. then it progressively got worse to the point the light stayed on. also when the light was on i had no a/c or fan. so i replaced alt. with a used one i had still no charge and idiot does not come on anytime, key on,running, not running, nothing. i have checked fusible links, fuses, relay behind headlight,it all checks out ok. do i have 2 alt. that don't charge or what am i missing? sorry for being long winded thanks dan

Sounds like you have a short along the line, that would be my guess. If you dont want to troubleshoot the entire line, you can do as i did. I wired the charging circuit from the alt. into a key-on hot, which was the wiper motor so the alt will charge your battery on startup. good luck!

And that's a VERY easy DIY fix. Cheap, too.
