Went by AJ's shop today which is always fun due to the hot rods, race cars, drag race cars, etc.

Sticking out of one of the doors was the unusal shape of a car - an old Karmann Ghia <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Yeah - I know YAWN <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" />

It was sitting high with big tires in the back and I went to the front to see what they'd done to this thing......

In front where the trunk used to be sat a Chrysler HEMI - old style built with dual four barrels.

This thing had to scream........

Owned by a 60ish lady that I guess likes to terrorize the others on the street that are foolish enough to think it's a rear engined VW.

Pretty cool - no camera with me though.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Mr. Ripley would be quite happy to know - not guilty as charged. Cell phone present - but it's a recent replacement for my trusty Nokia 6133. This Samsung Gravity thing I now have sucks, goes to silent by itself - turns off by itself. I don't even like to use it as a phone.

Basically, picture a mustard yellow Karmann Ghia with big tires on it and that's all that gives it away. Had the owner not been there I would have liked to looked at it some more. If for nothing else to see what they did to cool the thing.

There was also a model A pick up there with a big @ss engine and the functional radiator mounted in the back in the bed along with a few other toy cars scattered around.

My gal liked the Karmann Ghia - I tried to explain what it actually was - she's not a car person.

Wow - some fast KG's around - the rear engined one looks more straight lined.

After having a 60 300G convert in my past and building a hemi Stude (53) pickup. I'm kind of partial to that engine. Just wish the new ones weren't so expensive. I wouldn't mind building another Stude. Actually had one located in Oregon last year....

That is sweet. Is that a T4 or T1 with a porsche shroud? Is it running a side draft? Man. we did that in the late 80's, I would of thought they had fuel injection available by now.

Was the 300G engine a retrofit? The last stock gen1 hemi was in '58, and the later models got 413's, some with the hairy cross ram intake with a carb over each fenderwell, feeding the opposite bank. Very late (mid/late 60's), the 300 series was watered down, and some even had the 383. Don't know if any had the gen2 426 hemi or 426 max wedge, or the 440.

Awesome figures.Makes me want to put my 78X94 baack together and get the buggy running again. Ran 13's in a full bodied sedan running 44 IDF's. That was back in 93.
Dang, that makes me feel old! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
