Does anyone know what the size of the welsh plugs are on the exhaust side of the block, and has anyone had any experience changing them. Found the front one is leaking when removing the cold air intake getting ready to install new snorkel when it arrives.
I think you may call them freeze plugs.

Sorry, i don't know the size, but one piece of advice to changing them. Add a small think bead of good rtv to the ring of the freeze plug before install and make sure the hole is dry so that the rtv can set up on the block. This just helps ensure a seal. sorry the size is unknown to me. probably good idea to change out your antifreeze/coolant. Freze plugs can deteriorate due to the build up of acidity in the system.

You should be able to find a kit with all the replacement freeze plugs, look for one for a Mazda FE3 or Ford/Mazda F2. With a punch or big screw driver and hammer tap on the edge of the freeze plug, when it comes loose pull it out with pliers. Use a socket that fits inside the new freeze plug and tap it in as even as possible. Be sure to use RTV on the outside edge of the freeze plug.
Hope that helps, Dennis

I did a search online and you can buy an engine block heater that replaces a heater plug. It is 35mm
For searching reference, you might try EXPANSION PLUG too.
Good Luck. Everet

Gave up on the research, got time this weekend to attack the Freeze plug. Pulled the old one out, it is 40mm and a b!tc# to get new one in. Even with the alternator out there is only a couple of inches to swing the hammer. Next on the list is the leak in the radiator. Have to find exactly were it is leaking to see if I can repair it or shell out $200 for replacement.
On a happier note my new snorkel has finally arrived and once I have the water issues out of the road, I will start fitting it. I will put up a new post on how it turns out.

I don't know if this would work in your situation cause I can't think straight. Slightly drunk, lol. Sometimes you can use your 3/8's or 1/2" extensions and sockets to tap the welsh plugs into their homes.. a 3/8's or 1/2" ujoint is nice to have to cause you can angle your sockets when your driving the plug in. not sure if I make sense. but there ya go.

Just a quick note to everyone
I can get a few different metric welch plugs through my work ([censored] truck dealer) so if you get stuck but know what size you need, let me know.
