Is anybody running 31" tires with just the 1.5" body lift? I need new tires, and obviously want to go as big as possible. I have no stock bumpers and am not afraid of using the sawzall. Is it at all possible, or should I stick to getting 30"s?

I'm running 31" tires with no body lift and a 3" spacer lift in the front. I have the 2-door like you do. I had to pound everything flat behind the front wheels and trim part of the back of the front wheel openings on the fenders and also trimmed the inner fenders at the back. I now get mud thrown into the hinge area of my doors. Some people cut the front bumper, and I started that way but just ended up removing the whole outer bumper shell and styrofoam. I still get rubbing on something (I think it might the inner fender) when I go in reverse and turn at the same time.

In short, I doubt you'll get 31" tires under you with only a 1.5" body lift.

GONE, all I have left are a few spare parts and the wheels.

Body Damage is Cool
I still had to do the same to get on 31s with 4inches of lift and still had some rubbing, after the body lift no more rubbing.
the body lift alone is not enough for 31s.

30's should fit fine, though, huh?

You may rub on fuel neck tube. Stock rear springs are pretty weak under loads. Depending on backspacing, you may not rub.
Lift It!!!

After add ing up the cost of the lift, rear springs, alignment, rims and tires, it's too much. I figured the number one way to get better performance would be 30" mud terrains. Right now I have 235 A/T's on it. There is not enough support for the kia to allow me to invest too much money in it at once. I'll get the tires soon, maybe a lift if it's still doing good in a year. I also have the cherokee with 31" M/T's as my wifes daily driver. We have a parked focus. If the kia dies, i get the jeep and we put the focus back on the road. Way more support for the cherokee, but I like the kia until it dies.

If you are really on a budget, try TreadWright Tires. I have about 30k on mine and they are about 1/2 gone. Bang for your buck you can't go wrong. with the money you would save on tires, you could lift it.
