Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Hello folks, long time no visit, my bad. We have been working our guts out getting some conversions done, and have three mostly completed with two more in the pipeline. First delivery is taking place this weekend, and im racking my brain trying to get the tach. hooked up. Called dakota digital today, not much definitive help. Bought a factory d50 with 4d55 for reference, figured out how to make that tach stop working by disconnecting sensor on back of fuel pump. Also isolated tach wire on the gas factory montero, that works and stops on command. Now how do i get the diesel output to work with the gasoline tach! ARGH......if my hair was longer id pull it. I looked in the archive, and found nothing relevant, but maybe i was looking cross eyed...any help would be, um....er....helpful? anyone done this? Anyone have wire schematic for the d50 tach power supply and such? anyone know the meaning of life? Please help me before i give up and do somethign stupid like buy a new tach and spend a bunch of money i dont need to....

I have seen a tachometer kit for diesels at some performance shops...I think it is for installing an aftermarket tach, but maybe that can help you somehow?? sorry if that is no help.

There has been recent discussion on this specific subject.
Easiest solution is to get a factory tach, and just install it. Then hook up the old lead going to the negative side of the coil to the signal generator on the injector pump. Done.
You can get a dakota digital converter
I'm sure you could build your own converter.

Hmm, first off, thanks for your input. When you say "install a factory tach", are we talking a factory diesel tach, gutted and made to fit the montero, or are we talking a factory gasoline tach hooked up to the signal generator on the injection pump? I would love to figue out how to use the factory gas tach wired to the injection pump, as we are going to be doing quite a few of these, and that would be easiet and most economical. Is there anyway to get a direct link to the thread that covers this, or perhaps a name of the htread? I will look again, but looked pretty high and low on the archive for mitsu diesel conversations and did not see a topic that made sense as to covering this issue. Sorry, perhaps i need new glasses...

http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showf...&an=0&page=0#Post1240779There ya go. Several options in that thread. #1 diesel tach... no hacking... it just bolts in there. You also get rid of the "unleaded gasoline only" logo in there. #2 Dakota Digital with a stock gas tach. #3 Aftermarket Tach that runs off the alternator pulse. Hope this helps you out.
