Need a Spot
I need to change the clutch on my 94 LS 3.0 that I just bought. I found clutches from $150 to$600. Not sure which one is best for me. I don't want to waste money buying an expensive clutch if its not going to make a big difference. I paid $600 for the car don't want to pay the same for clutch as i did for the car.
secondly are there any special trick that I need to no about when i change it out.

redneck in the big city.

Body Damage is Cool
This might sound silly but that tranny+transfer case is heavy so my suggestion is get an extra set of helping hands and a tranny jack is a big plus. Also a clutch centering tool, worth maybe $2, is good to have.
Now, if excercise is what you are craving for there is nothing like bench pressing a tranny while dirt and oil are sandblasting your eyes. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Good luck and be safe under there.

Staiger,

Welcome to 4x4Wire!

I put a cheapy 'mom & pop' clutch set in my 87 Raider, drove it more than 80k miles before popping the head gasket. I was going to use a Centerforce setup, but found the lack of time to wait for special order a problem.

The trans and t-case are fairly easy to drop with the cross member still attached...more places for a standard floor jack to grab on. I did this and simply pulled the chebang from under the chassis. Without a shop floor and HIGH jack stands, I had no room for the rented tranny jack.

For a DIY, this is a weekend job. Start Saturday morning, pull everything apart, have the flywheel resurfaced. Reassemble on a Sunday.

As Javy mentions, your safety is paramount.

Cheers,
Russell
