Hi guys, been awhile since I have been here, hopes you all keeping the shiney side up.

Anyway, this motor has had issues for a long time. (always) It never has had the full power a 2.6 should.

From the day of the rebuild when mashing the gas clatters like severe timing issue. I thought possible piston slap, but heck that was years ago and still not blown up. So I'm thinking that the head has been milled enough times to be causing the problems.

The issue is sever now, as I have installed a weber on it, and easing the gas to not have issue is almost impossible.

Pre detonation ping I don't know. I have my call out for an indexing cam sprocket in parts wanted. I'm thinking I cannot get the cam to the right degree, I also used the balance eliminator kit.

I will try premium again, but I do not think it will help. I may try heavier distributer advance springs, but also not sure if my advance will be working proper with the weber and no more electronic feedback carb.

So anybody care to throw out some suggestions? I really hope not piston slap, I would prefer not to use the indexing cam gear, but I think that is the problem.

Welcome back ..

If its a ping your hearing do to to much PSI in the cylinders .. Check compression see what the PSI is ... Whats your timing at ?... How far off is the cam ?....And put some real race gas in the old girl and see if the ping (clatter) backs down ....Premium is still sh#$t gas and unstable as hell when you squish it to much ...I have a head and gaskets ( I think on the gaskets) if you need it up state here in Prescott....

Well I did a bit of testing. I did not figure it would be a compression issue, turns out to be kindof low, 130. But this engine, I still cuss the machine shop. every tolerance was barely in limit, and I mean barely.

So I check the advance on the distributer, and it definitely had issues. Turning on the rotor, it would advance but not spring back much.

Swapped distributer, and first test in driveway feels good. When installed also looked to be in a slightly advanced rotor position, not a full tooth or anything maybe 3-5 degrees. I know I put this in before and it never fixed anything LOL, must have been a dual thing, carb dist combo.

Now I just need a throttle return spring and fab air cleaner.

Then finish hooking up ARB [Linked Image]
