 Test ignition module?

Does anyone know how to or if you can test the little ignition module/transitor, the small black box next to the coil that looks like a postage stamp?
Last night my rig just turned off and couldn't restart. I assumed the coil connection came unclipped or something but sure enough here were no loose connections. I know it's rare for them to go out but I've seen it happen and for some reason have a strong suspicion that's my problem.

Determine coil negative. Break wire from ignmod to coil-. Insert voltmeter in break and crank truck and look for pulsing 12v as ignmod (just a power transistor) turns the coil ground on and off to make the spark.
Better suspect is cps in dizzy. Look in fsm for testing codes with voltmeter.
Fried caps in ecu usually shows up as sudden stop and no start, no spark. Pull ecu and check for fishy smell, inspect for leaking caps eating traces on the board.

well I actually have a spare distributor so I will try swapping that in and see what happens.
I know how to pull codes but I thought that only worked with the engine running? If I just turn the key to "on" will it tell me what's wrong?

Turn key to on and the ecu starts spitting codes.

looks like it's the timing belt. Went to swap the dist and realized the rotor doesn't spin when I crank the engine.
Kinda suspected this because when cranking it over it sounds funny, just hoping that wasn't it.

i will bet that it is the timing belt .... check the rotor when you turn the motor over see if the rotor is turning <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
it dosent have to be surrounded by water to be an island

yea first thing I did was try spinning the rotor.
Timing belt is definitely broken, got it all torn down now just need to go to the parts store in the morning. Good things these use non-interference motors.
