Okay. I was pulling the Boy Scout trailer home from my property and 3 times on the way home the truck jerked real quick like I ran over something. I got about 10 miles from the house doing about 60MPH and the truck died as if I turned off the ignition. I coasted over to the side to a stop. I tried to restart and nothing. Opened the hood and checked everything and could not find anything obvious. After sitting about 20 minutes, it restarted and has been running fine ever since. Where do I start looking. I hate having an unreliable truck that could die at any time. I would guess the fuel pump. It's a 92 V6 with 152k. Is it very hard to change the fuel pump? Thanks in advance for your help.

Body Damage is Cool
Years ago I had the same issue in my '85. Seemed fine if I never took my foot off the gas. Once I did, it just quit. Not all the time, but intermittantly. I would do the fuel pump. My pump turned out to be a tiny little universal thing the previous owner had put in. Got a good used big-boy Toyota pump and had no issues since. Simple to replace, but you have to drop the tank. I suggest running it out first. Keep a gallon on you, and once it start bucking, add a little fuel to get it home.

Also, for what it's worth. For suff like this, to save a little cash, I prefer good USED Toyota parts, over some brand new shiny aftermarket stuff.

It could be the circuit opening (CO) relay went out. To check that the fuel pump is working or not you can jump the +B and FP Connectors in the diagnostic box. If the fuel pump is working you, will here if you go back and stand by the fuel filler, there will be a whining sound. If you here the pump, start looking elsewhere like the CO reay or the MAF.

There is a copy of the FSM at the top of the page for a 93, it is the same as the 92.

Here is a picture of the terminals you need to jump.

Roll Me Over
I gad a similar instance about 7yrs ago. Cruising along at about 70 and it felt like I hit something, only I didtn't hit a huge pothole(non in teh road), and nothing large ran out in front of me. The CEL popped on and themn went off, no code was stored. It was comming due for a valve adjustment so I took it into he dealer, mentioned the problem, got no response, but they dealer found a burnt exhaust valve when they went to do teh adjustment.

The other instance I had with a loss of power like that, was with the speed sensor. Everything would shut down, but it never turned off.
