Reading the Haynes repair manual for my 89 Yota I read that I need to de-pressureize the fuel line beofre taking off the fuel filter. I have no idea what that means can someone explain what I need to do and why?

Thanks in advance!

The line pressure is a LOT higher than it is for a carbed Toy engine. You'll get fuel all over the place if you don't.

WEAR EYE PROTECTION.

Crack gas tank cap.

Easier to loosen fuel lines if you leave the filter bolted on. You can either loosen the line slightly and let it bleed off, or loosen the line at the fuel manifold. I do the former.

You can also find this info in the 93 FSM in the sticky at the top of this section. OR HERE

Take some time to become familiar with our website; lots of good stuff here.

Store or dispose of your dirty rags/fuel safely so as not to burn anything down later. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

All the above, plus do it when the engine is cooled off!!!

Get a clean jug and drop the line into the jug... i've had a litre of gas come out before the pressure goes down (really don't know how it does that)...

Well I got the filter changed. I was kind of a pain in the arse. A different PIA than my old 87 Chevrolet, but none the less a PIA!

I didn't do anything but disco the lines from the filter. It bled about a measure cup of gas out. The tank was more or less empty... that I didn't find out untill I took the flatbed off and removed the pump LOL!!
