Hi all, it's been a long time...
I am curious if anyone has any images of the 92+ Trooper rear suspension. As near as I can tell it uses a trailing link/swing-arm type design, but I haven't gotten a close enough look to see how roll is handled, if there's a panhard or other linkage.
I'm working now for a company designing an electric car and I thought of this suspension design as a robust, cheap solid-axle setup.
If anyone has any pictures or insight they can share, I would appreciate it!

Todd!
It is great to see that you are alive.
I have no useful information for you, but just wanted to say HI.
Michael
PS, I thought the modern trooper had two trailing arms with a panhard... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Howdy back at you! I sold my Trooper several years ago and replaced it with a Pilot- much nicer for commuting, though I miss the offroad ability of the Trooper. That, and the Wilderness rack. I don't remmeber seeing a panhard, but I have not spent a lot of time looking. I haven't had a chance to crawl under one, I might just have to be the strange guy in the parking lot crawling under cars...

There is indeed a panhard bar behind the axle. There are also two fairly long (for a stock setup) trailing arms attached to the frame rails, and a short center link attached to the top of the diff. Matt Brown of Independent4x described it as sort of a half-assed 3-link. Half-assed or not, it works quite well. ![[Linked Image]](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/BigSwede/Gilbert%208-12-06/GilbertAug06021a-1.jpg)

Is that picture of a stock rear suspension?! If so, I would say it DOES work well.
I know what the links on the sides look like... what about the panhard and center one? Where exactly do they mount?
If you can by chance take a few pictures and email them, I would be very grateful.

Not quite stock, the shocks were 2-3" longer than stock, and the sway bar was removed.
The center link attaches at the top of the diff. The panhard bar is behind the axle, more or less parallel, attached to the body on a bracket, drivers side, and axle on passenger side. I don't think I have any pics that show those links, but others do.

Its a pretty basic parallel 3 link with panhard. It works quite well at stock height. The short upper link starts to cause trouble when lifting, or if you are after big vertical travel numbers. It seems from my experience that the trooper rear suspension works better than the 4link that the later rodeo had.
1987 trooper LS.'94 3.2, SAS,35's , lots of dents and rust. Now, improved, with more dents. 1995 trooper LS. Wife won't let me improve this one. 1996 trooper. I'll need something to modify when the '87 finally rusts away.
