hi all.

For the 3rd time in 14 months the exhaust pipe on my 1991 SWB Paj broke between the resonator and the muffler. my shop suggests that they could insert a straight pipe between the exhaust manifold and the muffler - which is still good as it's only 2 years old. i can't even find a resonator looking online. Is the resonator necessary to the system (if it were removed would turbo operation be affected for instance) and if it isn't what noise changes could i expect if it were removed?.

your comments and experience reports are welcome.

thanks

John

I had some stock mufflers and resonators removed from my 1968 Buick GS400, installed some turbo mufflers. Car ran better and went from 6 to 7 mpg. I don't think the resonator would do much, except to keep exhaust resonance attenuated.

I run my 4D56 straight through 2.5" exhaust, no muffler or resonator. Sounds great and runs even better!

It will run fine, possibly better and cooler. You may or may not like the new sound. That's the biggest risk, is hating the new sound.
