The time has come for a water pump and timing belt, would you all recommend spending the extra $$ on OEM or are there decent, reliable aftermarket parts that cost less and you would say are as good. Thanks

IIRC, for the water pump GMB is a decent aftermarket brand. Otherwise I'd go OEM.
Also be sure you get one with the correct sized rear o-ring (you'll thank me later for that one). GMB ones seem to have the wrong size at least in my experience.
Also change your tensioner, pulleys, other belts & main crank bolt if you don't have the latest version... but you may already know that.

I couldn't justify the OEM pump so went with NAPA part, actually 1/2 water pump as I only had to buy the impeller side. No problems since 2006. I would also recommend the o-ring be OEM.

Another post with a Gates P/N apparently comes with the correct sized rear housing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Does anyone know the diameter of the "Correct" o-ring, So I can measure it before getting into it?

have you check Rockauto. You might find a good ,old on shelf, new pump , closout with dust on the box. (here I go again) Non Chinese metal. Last 2 pumps came with 2 o-rings one chys app, 1 Montero. Last one was rebuilt NAPA , the one before that was new NAPA High volumn,,,it had a thick cast impellor instead of stamped metal.
