noticed it ticking till it warmed up. knew right away what that was. then i smelled fumes till warm,so knew it was getting worse.pulled heat shield yesterday. 2 major cracks. looks like it will be coming off in three pieces.

this looks like the best deal i could find.

manifold

what do you guys think? any other tips for replacement? should i attemt to clean oxy sensors while in there. or buy new. i have very low funds. so maybe i wont touch them.emptied kia out of all extra stuff and removed spare tire, and got 22 mpg couple weeks ago. so sensors cant be too bad. got around 80,000 mileson it.

pretty sure the front cat is gutted cause it ran like crap once so i floored it until it finally reved up all the way. i've read that was the melting cat guts breaking apart. will find out soon enough.

strangley enough i havent read of anybody replacing exhaust manifold. had a severe overheat once. think thats what did it.

that looks like a not so terrible deal. use a lot of pb blaster on all them bolts and nuts. i'd say just re-use all of your old 02 sensors. no need to replace yet.

i think i have the same problem as you, just with 170k miles. i don't want to find out just yet though. i don't have the funds for a manifold just yet. would be nice to get a tuned header and cat delete for a little bit of extra power.

So, i bought an 01 Kia Sportage. before i even drove it, i nick-named it The Goat.. it has been just like a goat.. stubbern at every corner...

Mine looks like it has some cracks in it. I'm just gonna be really careful putting it back on and hope I don't enlarge the cracks. And yes, I might actually get around to putting it back together this weekend.

Why not install a set of extractors or headers?

Wildcat by Genie make them for the Kia Sportage in Australia.

i dont know if this manifold will fit 1999-onwards. the pre 98 sporty (and the cabrio) has one oxygen sensor- post 99 have two. still....i wish i had one of those. thinking bout replacing the pipe from the cat and back to something beefier. but after purchasing sporty no 2 (its got a nice manifold. come to israel and ill give you the manifold for free, its just sitting in my basement- which is not very healthy) im kind of REALLY low on funds.

mines a 2002. matches the link pic perfect. with one ox sens in manifold, second behind first cat. may have to wait till after christmas. that header would be nice. my old hot rod days when we got headers that were cheap they would rot out after couple years.hard to get good seal on too.

ive got an invite to isreal ..wow! that would be cool. walk on some hallowed ground. then we can jump that wall and kick some butt!

LOL! actually-things arent what they seem on the news- the fence aint that impressive-or long, when you see it in the flesh.

wish these genie guys had a dealer over here. when i ordered springs from DOBINSON in ausrtalia-it took 4 months!!!!! and i still went through some serious grief with customs. id stick with a nice manifold from a breakers yard.

p"s- i wonder-the engine is mazda FE3 - maybe a miata manifold can be re engineered to fitthe sporty??? a miate header is probably quite common in the states.

i own a 94 miata. the engine in that is a BP, not an FE. different family. i can look into the header flanges, but the miata manifolds would be too short and too long at the same time. height wise, too short. the FE seems like a taller engine. and the miata header would extend well past the cat..

Considering the lift and tires.. 22mpg sounds pretty good. I was able to get 26mpg on the absolute best of conditions with stock tires/height back in the day. Now I'm lifted, brush guard, roof rack, and 235's. I don't track my mpgs anymore. Especially since I drive all in town miles. I don't every driver farther than 5 miles anywhere I go. I use more fuel warming up my rig than I use to drive where I go in this cold weather. :P
