The local dealer has a really clean 1997 4x4 xtra cab with 170,000 miles for sale. They want $5800.00 for it. My problem is that they do not have any maintenance history on it. Is this a wise purchase?

I would have a mobile mechanic give it a good go over. They usually have a warranty/guarantee on their work.
You'll have to do the work and find out which one(s) are the best in yer area.

I have had 3 T100's This time I wanted to get a 97 or 98 because I wanted bucket seats.I looked at the one with 170,000 miles on it and it is rough. I did a 200 mile search on Auto trader and there is basically nothing out there. You guys that have them better enjoy them because most of them are wrecked or just plan wore out.

Your other option might be to grab a measuring tape and check what's out there that you can use for a seat swap. That's not been an uncommon practice in the older Yotas.

One of the first things I did with my truck was ditch the 60-40 seat, I found a right seat from a recaro dealer that was very cheap for a recaro seat, and it fit great on the left side, I have since put 120K miles on it and love it. Wedge engineering in CA can fab up a bracket and then you can mount either a recaro, koenig or corbeau seat, AND the great news is there is a boatload of cars that had recaro seats as OEM, and they may be found for far less than new. http://www.wedgeengineering.net/he is a really nice guy, and wicked fast.

Any seat from an MR2, supra, celica, or such-coup type car will fit with minimal issues. Also seats from honda hatch backs will fit really well too. I say these type of seats b/c the coupes all have the folding back seats so you can access the rear x-cab easy. Best seats if you can find them would be some from a camry coupe. They slid back and forth and also had electronic up/down/back/forth and had adjustable lumbar.
I still have my 60/40 bench. I would much prefer a 40/40/20 type like the old F series had or perhaps buckets-but then I remember why I like a bench-3 people up front if I want, folding armrest that actually feels like it belongs, etc. Upside if I did go buckets it build or modify a stock type console and give myself some damn cup holders!

Plus you need buckets to free up the space in order to punch through the floor for a second tcase.

I tanked the 60 and have a Recaro driver seat; added some bracing and dropped in a huge aftermarket generic console with 2 cupholder. Would love to upgrade the passenger 40; maybe look for a salvaged coup seat in good shape.

^ Thats kinda why I wish I hack buckets or something to put drinks in. The old f series I have has a unique cup holder, it attaches to the bottom of the bench seat and sticks out in front of the bench-moves with the seat. I been thinking of grafting one to the T100 but IDK how it would work. Other idea would be to make one that fit the tranny hump on the floor if the seats nose close enough to the t-case shifter. Nothing insane, just some MDF covered in maybe fiberglass or something. Just cut it to the shape of the hump, use some self tapping screws to attach to the floor.
