Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello, does anyone have a clue what would cause the EGR light to come on? I just took it in two days ago and it passed smog with no problem. It runs the same as it did before the light came on, I replaced the O2 sensor because it thought that might be it since its running so good. I did notice the light on after I made a hard right turn, but I don't see how that had anything to do with it. The engine has 20k on it along with the EGR and Carb and all the thromo valves, temp sensors etc.... Thanks Mike

How many miles does the vehicle itself have on it? Did the light come on right at a certain even-numbered mileage interval?

No need to pull the speedometer, just the little cover behind it.

Justed turned 180000, that's about when the light came on. So there's a switch on the back,, that has to be the strangest thing I ever heard of. Well I guess I just wasted 30 bucks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I pulled the cover off, can't see the back of the speedo, I guess I'll pull it out tomorrow. Thank you for all the info

The switch isn't on the back of the speedo, it's down at the base on the front. If flipping the little switch doesn't work to put the light out, or if you can't find the switch, just pull the bulb.

It was meant to be a reminder to check/service the system, namely to clean/inspect/replace the EGR valve. And it is pretty dumb.

And replacing the o2 sensor isn't a bad idea, anyway. My bet is that your mileage will increase slightly.
