Ok, more info to help diagnose this.

#2 Cylinder is dead at idle, but sparks starting about 1500rpm...even then though it's got a slight miss til redline.

Distributor?

ICM?

Anything?

Body Damage is Cool
Is there some crude on the inside of the dist cap? Thats the only thing I can think of if all the other cylinders are firing correctly.

Yup if everything else is firing right then my guess would be...
plug, wires, or dist cap.

Based on my 'limited' understanding an ICM issue would affect all cylinders not just one.

How about a bad ignition wire?

Bosh "lifetime" wires fall apart like wet spaghetti.

If you have enough slack...move the #2 wire somewhere else. If the miss follows;then you've found the problem. If not the trouble lies w/ #2....

Turns out that the optical eye in the 89 distributor controls the trigger of the fuel injectors as well as ignition...in a most precise manner at that!

Bought a remanufactured Distributor thru AutoZone, installed it, and now it runs PERFECT! $150 thru my commercial account, not bad when there aren't many options.
