Wells guys adding to another problem I got. Replaced the fuel filter, went for a cruise on the highway. 5 minutes on the highway I started to lose power. I got off and drove on the access road and had very sluggish acceleration power but if I floored it after it sluggishly got to 30 I think WOT kicked in and Ill start taking off again at a good speed. Once I get back down to slower speeds under 30mpg its sluggish again. I too off the fuel filter and checked it and ran some carb cleaner through it both ways and didnt see any debris, so I reinstalled it and same thing again.
Any ideas?? The problem before this which I dont know if it is fixed yet was the opposite, Couldnt go beyond 55 or 60. I thought replacing the fuel filter would fix it, now it does this.. So just wondering what you all think.
Im wondering if the replacing the fuel filter fixed the highway speed problem, but now it was allowing more fuel through it allowed more/new gunk to enter then fuel lines and cuase the now lower speed sluggishness.
Im planning on trying to blow out the fuel lines from the filter back to the gas tank and see what that does.

Check your fuel pressure. Sounds like a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.

I cant find a definitive answer from my Hayes Repair Book. Is there anything before the fuel filter and the gas tank? I cant find if there is anything in the gas tank that can be clogged. Any in there other than the tank and the fuel hose and return hose?

Let me get this straight... Before it would not go past 55 MPH or so.
Now it wont accelerate at lower speeds.
I would accelerate shut the motor of cleanly ( dont idle it) and pull one plug to see what it looks like.
Also, any smoke out the back when your on the throttle and it wont pull?

Yeah I was first troubleshooting the highway speed problem which made me replace the secondary throttle vacuum which gave made WOT work properly then I replaced the fuel filter and everything felt right for about 20 minutes then I started to lose slow speed acceleration. Maybe the primary fuel nozzle got plugged? Someone said to replace the fuel filter AGAIN. So I might try that tomorrow.

I cannot tell you how many times I replaced a fuel filter per customer request and ended up having to change the fuel pump shortly afterwards. If the filter prohibits flow even a little, it will wear out the fuel pump causing the initial problem you had. Upon replacing the filter, you opened up the restriction and allowed the problem you have at present. I am watching the probowl right now or I would explain the science behind it. I have seen this issue so many times I lost count. Good luck.

With the air cleaner off and motor idling, look down the carb throat. Do you see any gas dribbling from the booster venturies?
Slowly rev the engine to about 2500 RPM. The secondary booster should stay dry, the primary should start to put some fuel out.
As you raise the RPMs are there any flat spots?
With the engine idling, block off the carb intake with your hand. The engine should slow down. If it speeds up you have a vacuum leak.
