Body Damage is Cool
The exhaust on my 2wd 3.0 v6 is in bad shape.
Needs to replaced from the manifold back.
Debating on whether or not to go all out and do headers and cat-back, or just replace the needed ones.
It looks like there's only two options for headers (that I can find online) - LCEngineering and Doug Thorley.
LCE says they should fit the 2wd, Thorley only lists 4wd.

Any thoughts on direction?

Thanks in advance!

Todd

Hiya Todd! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Have you hit up www.car-part.com yet? That might be the way to go if needing to keep the emission folks happy for now.

You might recall the 3.0 had the #4/6 exhaust burnout problems that were fixed by putting on headers and getting rid of that choke point at the crossovers.

Hah- knew we had it around here:

At least now you'll know what it entails if you commit.

Good to see ya here!

Haven't done car-part.com yet.
I saw autozone has replacement pipe, of course that would be plain steel. I think that would end up costing somewhere between $400-$500, depending on cost of cat/muffler.
BTW - no emissions testing where I am, but I still want less junk coming out of the tailpipe.
The #4/6 potential burnout is exactly why I'm considering the headers.
I've got just over 150k on the truck as it is, and it still runs great - just a bit louder now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

My local independent muffler shop would do the job, w/new cat and muffler, for about $250 if the upper half of the downpipe could be salvaged. I bet you could find a deal like that where you live. -- Matt

I just remembered: I had a rusty down pipe on my '89 V6 4runner. I bought a used pipe from a guy on another board who parts out Toyotas. I think I paid $45 w/shipping. It was a nice piece from South Carolina. I've also saved rusty catalytics by welding new pipe stubs onto the bodies; it's usually the flanges that are buggered.

I'm kinda thrifty though, so I'll understand if you don't want to go to the lengths I do. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Roll Me Over
Headers certainly made a difference on my '90 with the 3.0, if you can find them chap enough and want to send the time installing them the are worth it imo. I installed mine when I rebuilt the heads(burnt exhaust valve), so I was able to drop them in from above w/the intake components removed, not sure how difficult it is with the engine complete, but I imagine it is a PITA. The crossover pipe runs under the transmission, might be an issue if you have an auto or have lowered the truck.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

This one is a manual.
Ground clearance shouldn't be a problem.
I have torqued the torsion bars to give me about a 1" lift in front.
I added the 1.5" soft ride AAL's in the back as well.
This is because I'm running tires that are 255/50/17 in the summer.
I have snows for the winter.
I'd like to verify the low point of the crossover, if possible.
Not sure if it or the front suspension will be the lower.
Rather it not be dragging through the snow.

Thanks!
