[quote]1998 Mitsubishi Montero Car Light Bulb Size Chart

Are those compatiable with the Gen 2? Are those mitsu part #s?

1998 is a Gen 2.

They are not Mitsubishi part numbers. They are numbers used to universally identify automotive light bulbs. Walk into any parts store with those numbers and look at the packages. Those numbers are on there in huge print.

The instrument panel light bulbs are occasionally referred to as "wheat" bulbs, as they look like a grain of whole wheat with the two little "legs" on them.

They're not hard to find.

Body Damage is Cool
Hi gang,
Like you I am searching for some of the instrumentthe bulbs but for my wife's Gen III and the local auto parts wanted $8 a piece

I am still looking for a more reasonable replacement.

Pull a bulb out and take it into your local Radio Shack - they have a pretty good selection of small automotive bulbs and you should have no problem matching it up to another 12v bulb that will fit the socket.

Need a Spot
Just wanted to update, the 74 bulb is the right size for the small instrument lights. I'm working on making a detailed writeup of the process (I know there already is one, but this one is going to me more idiot proof for people like me.)

One problem though, I put everything back together, plugged all the connectors in behind the cluster, and No tach or speedometer (and I'm assuming odometer is out too). Any idea what could cause this? I took it back out and made sure all of the connectors were clean and snugly connected, but they still don't work. All of the lights work (Even some of the bulbs that I didn't change work now (the A/T gear lights), but the gauges don't...

Anybody have any idea? I've taken it apart a few times today, and put it back together, same result...

Every light in the cluster works, the needles both move smoothly back to 0 if you move them manually. All of the other lights are acting as they should. I tried hitting the trip reset button firmly a few times because I saw it posted elsewhere, but got nothing.

Is there a fuse specific to the speedo/tach? They both are fed by different sensors if I read correctly, so I'm kind of stumped...

Just wanted to update one last time, I found the cause. Fuse #11 was blown. I'm assuming it was due to not disconnecting the battery while pulling the connectors behind the cluster.

If you have no speedo, no tach, and no gauges in the center cluster (oil pressure, compass, voltage), check that fuse.

Thanks for all the help above with the bulbs too by the way. Greatly appreciated!

Yeah, I had a minute at lunch at work, so I pulled up the FSM and looked at the fuses. I thought it could be a fuse since generally when you unplug something, and plug it back it, it doesn't break or ruin wiring.

Figured out what wasn't working and what was, and that fuse stuck out because the two instrument clusters were both on it, and neither were working (the only thing that was directing me away from a fuse was that the 4x4 indicator lights, seat belt light, all still worked, as did the background lighting. That had me worried, but they must be on a different fuse). Pulled the fuse when I got to the car, and it was almost black, so I think I guessed right.

BTW, I'm now carrying a small box of like 5 more of those 10A fuses too, never can have enough.
