Need a Spot
i have a 81 toyota truck with a 22r in it. i am wanting to lift it and eventually put bigger tires on. it doesnt have a ton of power obviously so was wondering what you guys thought on size. i am thinking like 5" lift and maybe 33's? and i have heard that mixing body and suspension lift isnt a great idea. i am thinkin 5 suspension and if down the road i wanted to raise it a couple more inches that i dont want to buy whole new set up. just a thought. got big plans for it in my head will see what showes up in real life....

You should post on the Toyota board. What gears do you have? A small body lift is alright but I wouldn't go over 2", personally. There are some nice kits on 4crawler.com.

Roll Me Over
Just went through a issue with a jeep tub on which the prior owner had installed a 3" body lift. Suffice to say that the tall body lift put too much strain on the body mounts on the tub. Six of the ten had to be completely rebuilt.

I would be very leery of a tall body lift.

Honestly 33's and a five inch lift is a bit much for such a low hp engine. I'm not sure what your plans are for your truck, but I'd keep the lift to 2-3 inches and run some 31's. The engine is still gonna struggle on hills and your gas milage will suffer, but it won't be as bad. As far as adding a body lift to 5 inches of suspension lift, again I wouldn't recommend it. A seven inch lift with 33's and an engine that puts out under a 100 hp. Unless you plan on re-gearing your really going to be crawling along. Especially on a nice windy day. My 2 cents.

a 2.5" OME suspension lift would work great with 33" tires, add a small bodylift if you need more.

My 3" BL is fine on my truck, i even rolled it (low speed) 5 years ago, no problem with the mounts.
