I have a 2001 Montero limited - how do you get the spark plugs out? It looks like you need to remove the intake manifold. I find this hard to believe but I wanted to has before taking everything apart.

Yeah had to take the Upper part of the intake manifold off on my 95 3.0, I think all the later 3.0 and 3.5 require the same thing.

Remove the intake manifold. Good time to change the timing belt if your going to change the plugs. The plugs and timing belt are usually done at the sane time.

If you had the service manual you'd know this, get it. You can find the information in Offroaders post located on the first page of this forum. There is other information on that page you need to read also.

The whole intake manifold? On my SR with the 3.5 DOHC, only the intake plenum has to come off. The intake manifold stays in place.

Use iridium plugs so you don't have to do it again for a l-o-n-g time.

Not so on the SOHC engine. Can't get to #4 and maybe #6.

Also Ive been told told change your plugs while the engine is warm that way they dont break off in the head.... Maybe its because everything I touch lately a bolt breaks. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I agree - it will get done with the timing belt, etc. It runs fine now but I would like it to continue to do so.

I had a Gen I SWB but this thing is completely different. I knew it going in, I had to get something that would seat 7 and my wife would drive, but the Gen 1 was a way cooler ride. So it goes.

Body Damage is Cool
Be gentle when removing the intake bolts it is metal in aluminum and they might turn a bit stuborn and if you don't show extra care you can snap one of them in there. Happened to me But got it fixed.

I have been wanting to do a write up on my work but time has not been my friend lately.

Let me see what I can do for all of GEN III owner's benefit.
