I was wondering if one of the high output 180A alternators that fits the 3.0 Gen2 will bolt up to the 3.0 Gen 1

What years had these high output alternators? I looked on rockauto but didnt see any options for 180a just 75a. They have pics you can compare the Gen 1 to Gen 2. Ill keep looking. Also dont oil your head bolts. John

I run a 2gen(3.5L)100amp on mine. I had to modify it just a tad. Run a spacer and then I had to get a new belt as well.
I cut off the back part of the top mount, as it would not let me a line it up right with it still there. Then I used a large nut as a spacer. On the lower one you can see there what I cut off from the top. I did not have the oem bolt So I used it as a spacer there. I can get the belt # for you. I had to loesn the belt adjuster all the way and remove both idle pulleys as well to get the belt on there it was super tight fit. Would be nice to get a belt thats 1in longer then the one I got but it was all the parts place had in stock at the time I was there. I should do a white up on it some time.

How to Swap a 3.5 2gen alt on a 1gen 3.0 1.Will need a spacer est 1/2in or a bit over. 2.Use Both OEM bolts 3.Hacksaw blade 4.Will have to get a new surptine belt larger about 2.5in longer. Stock is 53in so you want about 55-56in. I used a Gatorback 4050545 That is 54.5in 6.The belt I got was all most to short. But I was able to get it to work I have to remove both idler pulleys and put the belt on the alt be fore I bolted any part of it on and then was a pain but got all the 2 idlers back on and just have it as lose as it can be. Sorry about the typo ![[Linked Image]](http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/12127/IMG_0860~0.jpg)

Such a swap possible on a 2.6? More so mean...are the connections the same and such?

I am not sure about that. Would have to change the pulley as well as the 2.6 is a V-belt not a serpentine.

Such a swap possible on a 2.6? More so mean...are the connections the same and such? Look up a early 80's Dodge K car or van with a 2.6 ... Theres a 75 and 90 amp ($54 for a 90 amp on rockauto no core)... Its a big bodyed alt better duty cycle then the newer small bodyed alt stuff ... All parts to fix one are on rockauto if it goes bad ... Has a fan to cool it and two shiv v-groove pully ..Easy to hop up to 140 amp...
