I have a 4.88 ring and pinion that is supposed to fit a gen1 v6 front 8" axle.

These were attempted to be installed into Angelo's gen2.5 high pinion front axle, but they didn't fit because they are low pinion. I bought them and was going to install them into a '90 montero V6 front axle, but I never broke any CVs so I never got around to installing them.

They do have some surface scale on them. They have be sitting in the closet for about 2-3 years.

very interesting, but I think I need the HP 4.88 gears so that they would be a LP when I put them in the rear axle of a first gen pickup.

Low pinion is low pinion; front or rear. High pinion is reverse cut and doesn't fit a low pinion. You can't just flip it over...
