I went ms2 v3 on my 88 raider i want to know how you went with the stock 2.6 distributor cause i get no spark cause the ignition module and the pickup coil are integrated to one thing how will i wire this up and what mods will i need to do to the ms inside

2.6 Starion dist is pickup coil only.
Nope cause i opened my pickup coil and it is module and pickup coil in one and i removed the module and used the wire for the pick coil only and i had no rpm signal from it, unless you got a way to use it that i dont know of.

The starion pickup is a reluctor type, and the module is a dummy which does nothing. Read the shop manual. All spark control is in the starion knock box, including knock retard. Test across the contacts of the "module" and you'll get simple continuity. I've seen one broken open and it's just a piece of metal bridging the contacts. It's built that way to keep the mfr from having to design a whole new dizzy for the starquest, instead of just putting a dual port vac pot and a knock box on it....

Look at how it's wired and it's obvious there is no module in it, IF you understand how an ignition works...

The stock carb dizzy is a pickup coil and ignition module, the pickup coil is around the shaft with a reluctor, and the module is in the D shaped plastic piece. I think it would be a little easier to use the starion dizzy with MS, and use the MS driver instead of the mitsu module, but I assume you could do it either way.

You would have to seperate the pickup signal CPS function and output that to the MS, then use the MS ign driver to trigger the "module", which is mostly a power transistor controlling the connection from coil - to ground. I leave the sorting of the wiring diagram as an exercise for the student...

hey guys

on my truck when i did the 2.6 squirt swap i used a ms1 v2.2. all I did was run one wire from the negative terminal on the coil to pin 24. Just used the stock truck distributor.

fired right up and been running great for the last 4 months... I did loose the tach function and i use just the regular vacuum advance but

hopefully in the next few weeks I will be running the ford edis 4 system which will be a nice upgrade i hope.

How does the ecu get the crank position signal?

i guess it just uses the signal more as a engine speed reference then a crank signal i guess. Not that a tbi set up is requires a lot of precision.

But it seems as if there is some power and precision to be gained from the edis distributerless set up

That connection to 24 is the rpm signal to the ecu from the coil. There has to be another wire to the coil - that goes to the module. And one missing for the tach instrument. Otherwise Gandalf is supplying your spark...

My guess is that your stock system is handling spark, and you left the coil to tach signal wire off the coil-

yeah exactly, the stock system is running the spark..

I guess i kinda misunderstood he wanted to control spark with the stock distributor...

what i am doing, which is pretty simple is this

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm

And there is a online vender that sells a bolt on edis sensor mount for the 2.6, a crank pulley with sensor ring and a distributor block off.

just takes a few pick n pull parts and you are free of that silly distributor!!

not saying my way is the better way but for me just seemed the simplist with the most benefits.
