I was cruising craigslist and saw a montero sport with an interesting option, i thought montero sports didnt have...an R/D lock button (and the little orange sticker warning). Is this possible, i have never seen a montero sport with a R/D locker, stock http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/3124730577.html

Dats sport didn't come with a factory one, he equipped his with an ARB. I had "backyard" access to a salvage yard back a few years ago, and spotted a highly trimmed up sport. I was checking it out, and noticed that it had a locking diff. Did some quick measurements, and figured out that all the mounts, and such were in the same place as a Gen1 leaf sprung truck. SO I bought it, and installed it into my big Gen1.

... Is this possible, i have never seen a montero sport with a R/D locker, stock ... The LD was an option available on the Montero Sport 97-99 4WD LS, XLS, Limited. It was not part of the 'off road' package, btw. It was an option all by itself. Interesting. Is that really an LS? I thought the XLS came with the plastic wood grain interior. That looks like the white/gold XLS paint scheme. Missing badges, though. Has the factory fog lights, leather with heated seats and the XLS side steps. Factory keyless/alarm system. Hmmmmm. I see them set up like that around CO off and on. In better shape, though. This is a rare Sport ... Japaneese import 1997 LS 4WD 5-speed Wide w/ rear tire carrier and dash pod. I actually have two of these. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> No LD, BTW. Edward

I actually test drove this montero yesterday and cant for the life of me figure why they have it priced so darn low. Its in really great shape. This LS actually has the 3.5 SOHC engine in addition to all the other premium options. Also, its not a 1998 its a 1999.
The only issue with it (and a really big one), is it has some sort of oil leak, and i cant see where its coming from, their mechanic said he would take a look at it and fix it. Im gonna call back and see what they found

I saw an interesting Montero Sport at Pick-n-pull last weekend. A 2.4l 4cyl with a 5spd. I'd always assumed they were all V6.

I'd always assumed they were all V6. yeah when i was researching this montero on edmunds.com i saw that that engine was an option. Curious though, on edmunds.com, the only 4wd version which had the 3.5L was the Limited and there is no option on edmunds to add the RD locker

That's not an LS, then, that's a de-badged Limited.
Bought one for my X several years ago. Ours was the white/gold paint with fog lights, leather, heated seats, dash pod, Infinity eight speaker setup with the remote CD under the dash and the changer in the rear and locking diff. Also included the fake wood grain plastic interior trim.
Probably cam bore seals.
