Need a Spot
2002 Kia Sportage, The wife got in and started to town, called, said the alternator light and the brake light came on at the same time. Pulled into my son's house -- he says the brake level is fine. Told her to come back home -- I took a look -- headlights don't dim when the A.C. is turned on, rear window defroster is turned on, no indication that the alternator isn't charging, and the brake fluid is topped off. Any ideas? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
It did happen to me a month ago. Problem was the "tickler" wire came off the battery isolator so the alternator was not producing any power. As soon as I hooked it up, they both went off and everything went back to normal.
Maybe your wire that signals that your alternator is bad has an open or short in it...don't know which one causes the light to come on.
Just a thought.

NOt exactly same symptoms, but mine also keeps the highs ON but at reduced power, cannot dim, and various other idiosyncrasies....all back to normal when I ground the headlights properly. Grounds are a common problem with this car....look also in that direction...

hmm.. grounds. I should look into that too. I've been having all sorts of weird electrical issues lately. I'm gonna be tearing this thing apart this weekend. pulling out seats, panels, etc. I wanna clean it out from the dusty off roading I did and rewire my prior old crappy job from 7 years ago.
