Im going to be doing my front pads and rotors next weekend, and i have a couple questions that the FSM didnt seem to cover.
1)how do the front rotors come off, do they just pull off once you have the caliper removed?
2)any special instructions or tips i should know about completing this job?

To pull the rotors for a turn, you must disassemble the outer hubs assembly. This involves removing the drive flanges, bearings, caliper, etc. as with any contemporary 4wd. Look through the front wheel bearing service list and you'll get the idea.

It's also a good time to consider replacing the drive flanges with manual hubs if you don't have the AWD t-case.

Yes, but you are messing with something that could cause serious health issues if not done right.

Get someone that's more mechanically incline to help you.

In addition to Michael's suggestion I'd also download the gen 2 fsm (factory service manual) which goes through the process pretty well.

ok looked over the fsm (section 26?), the fsm is saying i need some special tools...snap ring pliers and a lock nut removal tool. Are these tools necessary for this job?

You can use a fine flat blade screwdriver to pry up the c-clip and then pull with pliers. The bearing retaining nut can be removed with a drift and light hammer taps.

The right tools make the job nicer, but any shop would likely use what is on hand.

A punch.

Do a search for drift tool or punch tool.
