I had the driver's door panel off my 2000 4X4 and looked for the usual suspects -window not getting power for 1 of 2 reasons in the control assembly, which I have fixed in 2 previous sportages (97 and 99 models), but when I overhauled this one it still didn't work. I can only think the window motor has a problem. This part I have never had out, and it looks like the whole door frame has to be disassembled(?) Anyone had to do this?

The motor is part of the regulator assembly. You could test the motor by putting 12 volts directly to the terminals on the connector going to the motor. Put the window halfway down and unplug the motor from the main harness before testing. If it's truly bad, you should just swap out the whole regulator assembly. They are under $100 on ebay. Just search for 2000 Kia Sportage window regulator.
There are two screws holding the window to the regulator. Take those out and carefully pull the window out of the door. You'll probably have to tilt it forward somewhat to get the angle needed to pull it out, and you may have to have the window partway down when you start. The motor portion of the regulator is just held in by three nuts and the track is held by two. It comes out easy enough once you remove them. Put the new one in and, replace the window and button it all up. However, I seriously doubt the motor is the problem unless you burned it out by holding the switch too long when the window was open or closed fully. I only had to replace mine because the cable snapped. The motor was still fine.

It could also be the switch. They are easy to clean. Just remove the screws holding the panel on the door and gently pry back the panel. Leave it attached at the top (pain in the <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> to put it back on). I prop them away at the bottom with a screw driver so I can access the switch. Unplug it first, then remove. The switch has 2 spring clips that hold it in place. Simply depress one side and it should release with ease. The switch may have some small screws holding it together (front doors). I think the rear door switches just have plastic retaining tabs (don't break them). The switch has some small metal rockers that work the contacts. They can fall out - be careful when you open the switch so you don't lose them. My contacts were covered with carbon-like crud. It brushes off easily. Clean both the contacts and the rockers, then pop it all back together and reassemble. The first one might be a bit of a trick. But the rest will be easy.
As Dryver noted, you can also test the motor at the same time. You can do that using the power from the connector to the switch (and confirm you have power to the switch - key must be "on"). You will have to ground the ground wire to the body with a jumper. Then you can use another jumper from the hot-lead to test the motor's up and down movement. Hope that helps...

what I referred to as the power (window) assembly is the switch assembly, which I am well familiar with. As I said, I have overhauled these before. So the problem is either the motor or something electrical at that end.
Thanks for info -will get to it when I have time and see if I can solve the problem
