I apologize for the sloppy posts this morning, I'm having issues...

Doing this mod to cars with idle issues has always solved the problem for me and made it like driving a completely different car. High and surging idles are very frustrating and embarrassing. I remember years ago sitting at red lights with idle issues and the guy next to me thinking that I reving at him lol.

In regards to the CA emmission laws, I have no idea if this will effect them. Perhaps a blockoff plate would not pass a visual inspection?? Once warmed up, I don't see why either the block off plate or JB weld trick would change the emmissions at the tailpipe.

I hope that you can get the timing/distributor issue resolved. I'm sorry I did not see this thread earlier before you tore into all this other mess. The FIAV block is very easy and will result in a perfect, solid idle.

I will also HIGHLY recommend an impact screwdriver and a good set of vice grips. You will be kicking yourself without it:

fixed it for ya since you were too lazy to fix it yourself.
Yes you can post more than 2 pics. Something is probably wrong with the first link or that web page doesn't allow you to link to pictures on it. Not sure and I didn't look too closely at the urls.

Thanks! Where did the big pic go? Is was way to big, but showed the holes to fill in with JB Weld. Can you make that smaller?

I removed it. That's why I said I fixed it.

Seriously though, you need to make them smaller. I'd say no wider than 800 to 1024 pixels wide. That way it will easily fit on the average screen.

Use MS Paint if you have Windows or the Mac equivalent to reduce the size. That's what we all have to do and it only takes a few seconds per pic.

folks,,this is all been covered time and again,,,the TB airvalve is bad, just like on mine. He's not listening or doesn't understand.
I've offer to fix his TB so he can past CA emmissions and get running,,,but he's taking the engine apart instead.

MBrannon, I want to thank you for helping me out, I really appreciate it! And maybe Dave is right, I dont understand...though I think I get it now.

I wanted to add something that I just found out about before I started changing all my intake gaskets. As you all know I replaced my throttle body once before. Well I just realized that when I bought it for the guy hey had un plugged the coolant hose that go to the throttle body and this valve we're talking about here. The inputs for the coolant lines were just capped off on the TB. So when I took it the mechanic and was told it was the MASS, the throttle body didnt have the coolant lines hooked up. And on my way back from the mechanic I made a stop and when I got back in the truck it was idling perfect at 750rpms for the first time since I had owned it. I just wanted to add that fact to the conversation in case it helps. I did get the coolant lines hooked back up hoping it was going to help but it made no difference what so ever.

So if I do like dave said and make a gasket to block off the hole I should be good you think?

One more thing, my battery has been dieing on me and I just got a new one. I did the 5 minutes on, off, 5 minutes on and was able to get the idle down to 1300 rpms doing that. I then went and turned the distributor all the way one way and the lowest I could get the idle was 1000rpms. I know thats not the way to do it and that I need to get a timing light and do the timing. I was just experimenting.

Thanks again to everyone...I'll give everything you guys suggest a try. I would still like to know how I might get this copper plug out. Or should I just make the gasket, dave?

Please stop messing with the distributor and making gaskets! You should never ever ever need to make a gasket for your truck! Use all OEM Mitsu gaskets. Set your timing correctly and leave it alone. There is no gasket needed to be made in the info I supplied above. Please re read the info and do a google search on "DSM FIAV" Read everything that comes up. Read it 10 times if you must, if that's what it takes to understand the process.

The coolant lines are not required. Please remove them again.
