Body Damage is Cool
So I've finally reached a point in my life where the Truck is no longer a DD, and I can do a few light mods to it to improve off road/ISHTF performance.

For years, I've wanted to swap in an e-locker, but have lacked the funds and the skills for a 3rd swap or the welding involved with the 4cyl axle.

I was looking up prices for complete Tacoma rear axles, and noticing there's basically no difference (price wise) between a 3rd member and the entire axle.

Does anyone know offhand if things like spring perches, brake lines, and e-brake hookups are compatible between the Tacomas and the pre-95.5 pickups? I can swap out an axle housing a lot easier than a 3rd member.

Thanks

The axle is alot wider. Your wheels will stick out 2 inches per side i believe...

I know the SFA trucks had the narrower rear axle, but I wasn't aware of another width change after they went IFSà it would be going into an 87, so it should already have the wider axle unless they changed them again for the Tacomas.

About 1.5" wider that the '87:

I think the perches are the same width. Be sure to get the brake hard lines and the e-brake cables and what not with the axle as all that will be different length than what you have. Also, you might want to check the bolt hole spacing on the pinion flange, that may be different that what you have. Options are to swap flanges or re-drill the flange or slap on a multiple hole pattern flange.
