My 97 4Runer SR5 with 132000 miles needs the following work that I hope to do myself: timing belt with water pump, Tstat and associated parts, muffler, rear axle seal, rear coil springs (sags a bit), and repair of the code P0306 that is in another post, at this point looking like a fuel injector. Everything else works. If I do all this work, can I depend that the vehicle will go to around 250K miles as I have been led to believe? It has been babied since I have owned it from 76K miles, and by the previous original owner. There are two tiny spots of rust on the bumpers. The rest of the body is very nice. Interior is perfect. Did front brake and rotors last year, new tires the year before. Average 15K miles a year. What do you think? Should I do the work or sell it?

The answer probably depends on whether it's just a vehicle for transportation or a type of vehicle you aways want to have, given its capabilities e.g. good 4x4, trailer/materials hauler, etc.
My 2000 4Runner has 137,000 miles on it.. I always want to have this vehicle for its intended purpose.. 4x4, pulling a utility trailer or hauling materials on the roof rack... and not to mention all the mods I've done to it.. And I'll put whatever money into it to keep it in good condition.
I don't plan to ever sell it, and probably would not buy another one, given where gas prices are/will head long term... So I'm keeping it, keeping the miles down on it by driving enough to keep it in good shape and using it primarily for what it was intended for..
Otherwise I drive the Prius for the local running around, even done some cross country trips where I knew no 4x4 will be involved, and enjoy the 50mpg... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
btw I just let go of an '88 Camry that has 302,000 miles on it, still on the road, the engine has never been opened up, still has good compression and burns little to no oil, and still has the original clutch in it.. So Toyotas, properly cared for (I did all the maintenance work), can go a long... long way..
