I'm trying to fix a fast idle issue. I have a 89 Raider 3.0 V6, and when I unplug the Mass Air Flow Sensor my idle drops by about 500rpms.

Is this normal? What should happen when I unplug the Mass Air Flow Sensor? Does this tell me anything?

It tells me the maf is bad, or you have a large vac leak somewhere. Check the accordion hose very closely for tears.

Well, I've replaced the MAF Sensor with one from a wrecking yard and didn't notice any difference. Could both of my MAFS be bad?

I checked the accordion hose and everything looks good. I'm all out of ideas...I took off the EGR Valve and the Gasket didnt look to good. I'm planning on cleaning the valve which is pretty dirty and getting a new gasket to see if that does anything.

Body Damage is Cool
There are several sensors that could cause IDLE issue. Temp sensors. When MAF goes bad. the truck will NOT idle.

I've changed the Coolant Temp Sensor in the front with the 2 prongs, also the MAF Sensor, is there another sensor I should change?

I cleaned the EGR Valve and got my new gasket back on and it did not help the idle issue.

Please let me know what else you all would recommend me checking on.

Again, forgive me for all the questions, this is the first car I've really worked on like this and I pretty much know nothing.

not sure if that engine has an idle air control IAC valve. if it does, probably it. try cleaning it first.

OK. Couple of issues here.

#1 The title of this post is insufficient. Please Please Please Read the posting guidelines. POSTING GUIDELINES

Specifically Guideline #3.
Title your Post Appropriately. If you have a specific question, put the specifics in your title. A good example would be: Gen 2 3.5 ltr Crank bolt problems,OR My Gen1 is smoking after start up. A poor example would be Help me please my truck Suxor!! OR "Transmission"

#2 you've already got a 3 page long thread on your specific problem where there are SEVERAL folks trying to help you. It is un necessary and will only help to confuse the people who are trying to help you. To post a new thread will only complicate things even more for everyone involved.

There's your orig. thread. Thank you, and I sincerely hope we can get your fast idle situation licked! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
