really bad, not just saying that because it's not my brand (i love rovers especially series II) but discos are horrible. You'll need 2, one to drive while the other is in the shop and the parts will make Montero parts seem like domestic stuff.

On a side note you just missed out on a couple nice blister fender trucks here in phoenix.

Looking at this Disco - how bad are they?

I took my moderately built GenI wheeling with a Rover group a couple weeks ago at Uwharrie. I did every obstacle they did. I drove the 5 hours there, but had a spot on a trailer to bring it home if I broke it. So... I wheeled the tee-total piss out of it for 3 days. I bent an outer tie rod end and drove it home. While there, I witnessed copious amounts of carnage that shouldn't happen. Like broken motor mounts, busted axle shafts, spider gears, diff housings, driveshafts, more overheating than I care to mention. Had to donate all the melted ice from my cooler and 6 beers to get one guy off the mountain... Disco's are nice and plush, but Adam's right, you'll need 2 to have any reliability.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

My brother in law who's Scottish and a trained mechanic specifically told me that if I bought one, he wouldn't help me fix it because he already had a full time job!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

That said, if a decent deal came up for a Defender 90, it would be parked next to my Monty. Yes, they're that desirablelooking. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

There are writeups on how to put Toyota diffs in their housings because the stock diffs are weak. Also, a friend of mine has one. It cost him $110 to replace a coolant junction because the air bleed valve was cracked. Disco's are horrible for reliability, but I'll give them this: They sure are comfy, when they're drivable.
