Q's on 1st gen tcase from a 4cyl manual to a V6 auto.. mine locked up hard last night

Long story short for those that know me here, I've blown out my fair share of 5sp manual transmissions, last year, I swapped in a V6 lockup unit into my turbo 4cyl SWB 86 (aka REDCAR).. it was a nightmare as for finding a good unit..
Took 3 swap outs in all to get a good trans/tcase combo.. but I was set.. LAST NIGHT.. in Gorman CA.. to watch the metor shower....
POOOWWWW! while going down a decent (4w-low) all 4 wheels locked up hard!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> could not move..
I'm on a nice decent, but after some slamming of R-N-D-R-N ,etc,etc.. it broke free.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />
but the t-case will NOT RELEASE OUT OF 2wd-low!! I had to drive home on the 5frw at 2am with the EMERG blinkers on in LOW RANGE <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
front hubs unlocked ofcourse.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
anyways.. don't know why it jammed but this is my question..
I still have my original 86 5sp setup in the garage.. will my tcase bolt up to the v6 trans?
For some reason, I remember it being no, otherwise I would have done it during my original conversion.
But this junkyard T-case left me high and dry <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
WHAT WILL HOLD UP TO SOME TURBO POWER?? I'm tired of this!!

But I'd have to build an adapter or something to fit in place between the tranny. At this point, I'd just like to mate in another type of transmission all together. Something with good aftermarket support... There are Chevy & Dodge versions of the 231. The GM versions use a five-bolt front face that is incompatible with the Jeep and Dodge six-bolt styles. The Chevy versions also use longer factory adapters and require the extensive mixing, matching and purchasing of parts to make them compatible for Jeep coversions. NP231 Details I wouldn't even know where to start on this.. In a SWB, there is soo little room.. I might as well go with a LWB Toy LC. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

You'd have to use a slip yolk eliminator to shorten the rear of that thing and have new drivelines made up. You can get lower gears for those too.

The stick and the auto transfer case have differant input shaft splines. The cases are the same. You can swap every other part but the input shaft.
87 Turbo Intercooled Raider, roller cam, torsen rear diff, LSD front diff, lockup auto with modified converter, V6 brakes, low transfer case gears...

Thanks for the info guy.. this is defiantly something that's not going to be tackled right before the holidays. I have to think about this and the viability or long term future of this vehicle.
I think if I'm to keep this vehicle now, it's to have the original 5sp rebuild as I miss it so damn much. Now that I understand there's a "strengthening" mod for the 5th gear counter-shaft.
Or mate the 5sp to the NP231??

While we are on the subject of swapping T-cases and transmissions has anyone ever swapped a V5MT1 onto a 24-valve motor(3.0/3.5 dohc or sohc)? As far as i know it never came from the factory right?

As far as I know it only came behind v6s and diesels.

While we are on the subject of swapping T-cases and transmissions has anyone ever swapped a V5MT1 onto a 24-valve motor(3.0/3.5 dohc or sohc)? As far as i know it never came from the factory right? My Gen 2 1992 has a 5 speed V5MT1 V6 3.0L from factory. Not that uncommon in US in early Gen 2s. A bit more uncommon after 1994.
