Has anyone used some of the kits on Rock Auto like Gates. It's time. I used a Gates kit on my 2.5. It came with the Japanese Bearings (koyo I think?) Which were the same brand that came off (and still going strong at 125k miles). I was satisfied, so I bought the Gates kit for the Hyundai when I did it -- it too came with the Japenese bearings where the OEM were Korean GMB (and exploded at 104k miles)

I'm in the process of timing belt/water pump/head gasket job.
I believe I have a gates belt purchased as well... it came from a place where I use to order a lot of parts for my german cars. (bmaparts.com)... Be sure you replace those rollers for sure. When I pulled the right timing belt cover, the bearings from the roller on the right spewed out all over the driveway (not sure of the brand, but I'll see if I can find it.
You may also find that the timing belt cover gasket is bad... mine was flaking away was quite dry and brittle. I ordered replacements, but I may have to trim down some of the replacement to fit. The gasket for each cover is like in 4 pieces. I could only order a few of the pieces, so I ordered extra quantities of the longer pieces so I can trim them down as necessary.

I'm running the Gates kit I got from Rock Auto. No problems after 2000+ miles.

The fun starts tomorrow evening. I bought the special timing belt tension tool and a adjustable cam wrench. parts listed below. Anything I'm missing. I'm planning on removing the radiator and have it cleaned also.

be sure you have 22mm socket so you can get the crank shaft pulley off. Also, you'll need something to hold onto the pulley while you undo the bolt. I ended up using a chain wrench, and it worked like a champ.

is that the exact tool called for in the FSM? it looks like it should work.. but the bolt is going to be on there pretty tight... so you might want a length of pipe to place over the handle of that tool so you can get more mechanical advantage.
might not hurt to replace the spark plug tube gaskets too. If you haven't done the job before, have fun with the AC pump thing (on the drivers side). It's held to its bracket by 4 12mm bolts (one at each corner), then the bracket itself needs to come off. 5, 14mm bolts if I remember correctly.
Removing the radiator will be a big help to getting you more room. I just did my timing belt & water pump... but my replacement water pump wasn't EXACTLY the same size as my original. So it took a little filing to make sure that everything was in spec before the accessory mount would line up properly.

Thanks for the heads up. I do have a copper pipe I slip over my 1/2 inch socket to get more leverage. I have been reading manuals and watch every youtube video I could find. Knowing how and doing are two very different things sometimes.
