Need a Spot
Poking around my engine trying to find the source of a dead spot at idle and running rich, I discovered some cracks (more like holes) on my upper air plenum. I've never seen cracks so big on a plenum (pic attached), what could have caused this? Also, I would have expected my engine running much worst and having the engine light on. It even passed emissions with flying colors, and I know I had the engine miss when I did emissions so I think the cracks were already there.
Dealer wants $940 for it (part only). Can you guys recommend a good national junkyard that I can source the part from? Thank you much!!

Hi Chelo & welcome to 4x4wire's Mitsu forums.

It's not common for them to crack that I can recall however it is common for the internal butterfly valve to fail and I wonder if it could have been ingested into the engine intake and then somehow spit back out? Not sure but I am confident others will chime in to try and help diagnose what happened.

As for as a used one, try car-part.com for a network of salvage yards where you can likely find a donor part. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

EDIT:@mxmike...just out of curiosity, how much would you let that plenum piece go for?

If you add your location to your profile, you might get some local wrecking yard recommendations from forum members in your area.

Need a Spot
well, looking at it from the inside with one of those dentist mirrors I guess it is factory. It just looked strange when looking from the outside because of the raw edges, but I guess it was just the casting. So my dead spot is not a crack on the plenum, will have to keep looking for the source of the problem..
Thanks for the replies.
