Truck use to be a 2.4 turbo, but I think it still has the turbo flywheel and tranny. Will a clutch kit for the non turbo flywheel work on this flywheel?A Sachs clutch kit for the non turbo was installed and was having all kinds of hard/non shifting disengagement issues. It's in the shop now being taken apart once again. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The turbo tranny is an R151F Non-turbo tranny is W56 or similar. They use a completely different clutch. You can tell if the tranny is the turbo tranny based on the black rubber plug in the bellhousing, if there is one, it's an R151f. http://www.marlincrawler.com/clutch/heavy-duty/heavy-duty-clutch-kit-1200-lb

Numerous trannies will work.
The transmission you have no (151f) is one of the most sought after, with the low first gear, heavy duty case and 23 spline gear drive transfer case. It's basically the holy grail of trannies for toyota rock crawlers. Even blown it's still worth a good chuck of change. Many, many trannies will work behind the 22re, the only differences is that drivelines may need to be adjusted / shifter locations (transfer case can be forward shift or top shift) among others.
If your transmission is fine (they are typically bulletproof) it's cheaper to fix that to modify all the driveline / etc...

Greg Canada, thanks for the reply. What other trannys will match up with the 86 Toyota truck 4x4 2.4 EFI? You'll want to look for a tranny and transfer case combo that have their shift levers in the same configuration as yours. Some transfer cases are forward shifted and some are top shifted. I have an R151F and matching transfer case, the turbo setup, which is forward shifted. That's probably what you have. Get it right and you won't have to cut up your floorboards to fit the other configuration (top shifted transfer case). I had an '84 extra cab, with the G series transmission, that was also a forward shift set up. However, the G series is not considered to be as durable as a W series transmission. If I'm recalling this correctly, the W series from the mid-to-late 80s is mated to a top shifted transfer case. I think you want to look at 90s models where forward shifted transfer cases were used. Do some searching on the marlincrawler.com website. They have great sections over there devoted to transfer cases and transmissions. Tons of golden information.

'93 thru '95 22RE engines used the same size clutch as the R151F too.
