Does the pedal go to the floor when you experience this?

I had a problem like that with my first car ('78 Monte Carlo). The problem turned out to be the master cylinder. Swapped it out and all was good thereafter. Might be worth looking at...

That is my guess as well. I had to replace mine last year. I bet if you look at it you will see where brake fluid has leaked from between the booster and master cylinder. There is a seal on the back of the master cylinder and mine went bad causing the leak.

I didn't have the brake pedal going to the floor problem. Mine is a 5 speed and I would get a hard clutch pedal because the clutch master cylinder feeds of the brake master cylinder.

Hmmmmm I'll check into that. I have to replace all the brakes anyway. The last time this happened when the brakes decided to work it did so so violently the right rear shoes exploded. I'm sure they were ready to fail anyways...

An update on my brake issue, I noticed a puddle where I park the beast and when I finally got around to looking turns out you guys were right. Master cylinder is leaking between it and the booster.

My firewall is down to bare metal from where the brake fluid trickled down. With as slow as it leaked I just never noticed it at first. It was when I saw a small spot on my driveway that I discoverd it.
