Well, I was about to go get gas for the first time since I've owned this truck (!!!), and I noticed...the radio isn't working! I wanted to make sure it was truly dead before I did anything rash.
When I press the Pwr/Vol knob, nothing happens. No sound, no display. I checked the fuse, and it looks good. Replaced it for fun, still no dice. I have the radio code from the PO, but I can't enter it with no display!
Is there something else that could be preventing the head unit from powering on or giving me a display? I really like this head unit and I'm hoping I'm just overlooking something!
TIA! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Can you check the plug going into the back of the radio? I had one that wasn't clicked in. It took a few years for it to finally work loose enough to loose power. Once I clicked it back in, all was well.

Once I clicked it back in, all was well. I forgot to mention...the lights on all the *buttons* on the radio light up with the rest of the dash. But the LCD readout on the radio does nothing, whether or not I press the PWR button. Would this rule out the plug in the back of the radio? I'll look up how to get the radio trim off and pull the head unit out so I can make sure it's plugged in all the way. I hope it's something that simple! Otherwise, I'm gonna cross my fingers I can find another head unit! If anyone has a spare head unit (has the cassette deck with CD changer control and aux jack), let me know! But hopefully this one will work, it's soooo clean! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

They had a security lock out triggered if you lost power, ie someone tried to steel the radio. Big PIA. I dont remember how to reset it, but you need the password. Might be written in the owners manual. This ranks up there with power antennas as bad ideas.

Don't recall if the display lights up though when you do it.

Yeah...I have the code and the manual with the procedure, but when it's powered back on it should read "Code" on the display. I can't see anything at all. Bummer cuz I really like this radio! I'll cross my fingers at the junkyard. It might be all for the best right now, I should probably be listening for noises and such after such a major job on the truck. lol.

I've actually been thinking about replacing my head unit with one that does bluetooth for audio streaming... I don't have specifics on what I have, but it is the stock unit with the tape player (cd changer in the back). message me, perhaps we can work something out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Did you double check for a loose plug? A lot of radios have a "power" connector that actually powers the radio. And a separate "backlight" connector that is on when the ignition key is in the Run or Acc position. Your symptoms sound like the "backlight" connector is ok and the "power" connector is not.

I haven't...tomorrow I was going to try to figure out how to get behind the radio but I'm always scared of missing a screw and breaking the trim plastic. I'm not good with the "hidden screws" that are so common on dashboards. I end up grabbing stuff and yanking it out. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
