I thought about doing the starion LSD into my front a few years back. Then I heard about how squirrely a front LSD can act on snowy/ice pavement. I think you'll experience that in your local. Anyway , I decided if I could afford it I'd get a front 8" ARB locker for Sierra deep snow--- or best leave it open,,squirries scare me.

I also put one in my 89 4door ( an auto) and it worked absolutely flawless, in deep snow. Front and rear LSD outperformed a buddy's Toyota equipped with dual lockers up a snowy slope. Basically, let go of the wheel, and it steers back and forth as LSD finds traction.... With an auto, one can load up front and rear at the same time using a light application of foot brake...

BUT. On the road, in 4wd, in slush, ice, etc, it was scary. I no longer used 4wd on the road after my truck changed lanes without my permission on an icy road. And I also stripped the splines off the end of a cv axle (I had used new c clips, but maybe they weren't seated properly... Who knows?).

Would I do it again? Depends on how I used the truck, and the climate conditions. Up here in the land of winter snows, it basically limits you to RWD on the road, so probably not... But the offroad traction was amazing! YMMV.

I could have used anything up front when I got stuck in 2 feet deep springtime "snow cone snow" up in the Sierra near Russel's old stomping grounds. On a weekday and nobody for many miles. Finally got out digging and useing E brake to better engage rear LSD. I'm glad Montero has the lever E brake instead of one of those pull rods.
If I was still living in KY I definately wouldn't want a front LSD. There was alot of on road driving in deep wet slushy snow and in KY you always have an inch of frozen rain to coat the road before the snow hits.
Working in a Zoo your on call 24/7 and I had to get to work cause many keepers couldn't. I ,the critters and even the unionmember hating management was glad I had a Montero.

Hmmmmm Maybe I should just stick with my Open Diff, as I want this good mainly for on-road bad weather. I can always install it later...

I've got the LSD in mine front and rear. I drove mine with only one hub locked in since I've got manuals on mine. Did the pass front since drivers rear seem to be he main power ( least it seemed like to me). Did better then with both hubs locked in.
Did the whole front end when I did my diff and painted all pretty. Then slapped the skid plate on and went "well that was a waste of time". Still it's pretty. Moved my diff vent higher and used a lot of stainless steel bolts on it. Salty roads here.
