Body Damage is Cool
Per the FSM instructions, we removed the cover from the new oil pump to verify that the timing dots on the oil pump gears were pointed towards each other, then marked the cover with the location of the woodruff keyway for the balance shaft. On installing the oil pump, we rotated the balance shaft so the oil pump would go on without changing from it's indexed position. Installed in that position though, the woodruff key location on the timing gear doesn't match the FSM diagram for aligning the timing marks and chain links (the woodruff keyway on the gear should be at 9:00).

The keyway does line up with the mark on the body when viewed straight on.

Has anyone run into this before? Should I just rotate the oil pump so the woodruff key is correctly oriented to install the chain or will that screw up the balance shaft orientation? It seems like everything will only go together one way, but then why index the oil pump gears in a direction that doesn't line up the timing marks?

I got the impression from Brian's go-around with this recently that there was no way to mis-time the balance shafts, so these steps really don't count for much, but I may be speaking out of my rear end. Hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

Sounds like things are going back together, at any rate. Best of skill.
