Thanks for the suggestion. Sort of what I was thinking if I couldnt get this Gen 2 stay to work! I am determined to get something working! Might have to take a trip to a wrecker/dismantler/recycler for ideas.

IIRC, the gen2 works by having the stay pulled against spring pressure engaging a notch on the stay. That's why I used the idea I posted. I bet you could modify the gen1 stay to work approximately the same way.

Getting the Wheeling Fever

I use a window wedge. Its made of plastic and used to pry the tops of door jams to stick a jimmy in for unlocking. They come in several different sized and the plastic is really easy on the paint. I drilled a hole in it for a rope and slide it in the space between the door and the qtr pan. The rope is so I can reach and yank it out without getting my have in there. Seattle has some hills too. Cheers.
