Installing a timing chain to find no plated links. Can anyone tell me the number of links between the plated links on a G54B timing chain? Found this illustration below and counted 18 links between the plated links on the short side, but I dont want to trust that drawing blindly. Any help would be a life saver. Thanks. Roland

The timing chain has 102 links. You have to count the inner and outer links. From your count, you only counted the outers. Based on that count, the illustration is correct in count of links, so you can use your count to position the timing marks. Happy wrenching.

Not trying to sound derogatory, but did you check both sides of the timing chain? I recently had the same experience and found that the chain only had bright links on one side - I promptly removed the chain, turned it around, and timed the engine.

That thought also passed behind my eyes, and I've seen all three cases - no plated links, plated on one side, and plated on both - so I did it the easy way, in terms of what he presented...

I had the chain completely out and in my hands. Had a chance to inspect both sides thoroughly in bright sunlight and in my shop. It was a Rolon chain with the logo stamped into each link on both sides. I even checked to see if maybe the "key links" were links with a different Rolon logo or an upside down logo.

Rolon sounds like a great brand of timing chain to avoid buying in the future...
