Getting the Wheeling Fever
Looking for a place that can recore my radiator from 2 rows to 3 rows. Only place that has returned my call so far is CSR and they quoted $530. What are some good Phoenix area radiator shops?

I took mine to Mike Dana Radiator in Mesa when I needed it rodded out. 741 S Country Club Dr, Mesa, AZ; (480) 969-7368. Not sure if they do re-cores or not, but I got good service there.

Just called them, they wanted me to buy a CSF# 3050 instead of re-coring. $175 is a lot better than $530, but he said it was a 3 core model but the specs on the CSF site indicate it's only 2 row but it is all metal like OEM at least. Living and planning on offroading in the desert I'd definitely prefer more cooling capability but the specs on the CSF don't look like they get me there.

Toast got a pretty decent deal on a custom Rad being built at Serck Radiator in mesa. I like Dana Radiator and Serck, they've both done good work for me so either one I highly recommend. I'm not a phoenix guy though so there might be decent ones out that way.

I've always used Dana but they wanted $530 to build me a 4 row using old radiator parts. DO NOT BUY THE AFTERMARKET RADIATOR, i bought one from performance radiator in phoenix and it lasted a year before it desided to leak.

I ran a 3 row for 5 years from Dana, with a locked up fan clutch and it was just enough to keep it cool out rockcrawling in the summer (that's with 35's and crawler gears). Dana recommended a 4 row and i felt that they're just doing the more must be better.

I went to Serk in Mesa, talked to Pete. He said the best setup is my current setup (2 row and 4500CFM electric fan), but i told him i want to go back to a clutch fan for reliability and trail repair friendliness. SO, he explained how the single pass radiator works and how when the outlets are on the same side like ours is the efficiency decreases significantly at low RPMs. He's building me a 2 row full aluminum dual pass radiator for $375, should be done this week or next.

how's that?

single pass vs dual pass radiator in a nutshell.

My new rad will be crossflow since the outlets are both on the left side.

I've used Hays Radiator service on Indian School & SR51 several times and have been happy with price, service, and knowledge of the owner. I haven't had a recore done but I'd call them before pulling the trigger on any other options.

I've had two rodded out at Hayes as well. I especially like them as they're less than a mile from my house.

You'll have to post back how well that works, especially cause it's cheaper than the recoring. Are they going to fit it up to the OEM mounts or are you modifying them? I'll keep Serck in mind for the future.

I spoke with the guy yesterday over at Chandler Radiator Service, slightly cheaper than CSR. I decided to go there since we had a useful discussion about why I wanted to do the recore and it's less far out of the way for me to go by his place so he can look and confirm dimensions before deciding if I'll just rod the current one or recore it.

Another place I called just returned my call as I was typing this, To rebuild with a 3 row core he wants $850.

I gave them a stock radiator to copy so it should bolt up, Serk rodded my diesel monty's radiator for like 60 bucks and fixed it's leak.
