Need a Spot
Recently I bought a second hand Kia Sportage 1997 (KNAJA5535V5427252) and I am very happy with it.
There is only one problem with it and that might become a major issue any moment. The vehicle came with two remotes (keyless entry/FOB/immobiliser). One of them stopped working. I visited the local Kia dealer and they tried to reprogram it. This was not possible and the remote is out of order. So there is one left and I enquired to purchase another one. There is none available in Australia, several hundred on back order, and I was told they are obsolete.
The problem is that if my last immobiliser stops working I can not use my otherwise perfect working car. I have visited several ækey placesÆ and a knowledgeable auto electrician, to try to bypass the immobiliser/anti theft system, or to replace it with an after market one (I also asked the dealer, they said they were unable to).
My query is, how can I rectify this problem. The people I talk to think it is a strange situation that when the immobiliser stops working the car is unusable for ever. I believe there is an elaborate system to still use the car in emergencies, but this is not practical at all.
I am hoping somebody can shed some light on this problem and tell me how to solve this problem. Or supply me with the right information so that my auto electrician can æfixÆ it. I am quite happy to have no immobiliser since it is an older vehicle and not very prone to theft.
Thanks from Tropical North Queensland.

I use an after market system with mine. Mine did not have a factory security on it though. I had to add a door lock actuator motor into my drivers door. If you look here, you can see what wire needs to be attached in order to disable the factory system if you are going to add an aftermarket system. Kia Sportage Alarm wiring I only added a alarm on mine so I can use keyless entry and remote start.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. I think the problem is with the factory set (integrated) security. Kia Australia says it can be adjusted but as soon as the power is disconnected (or flat battery) the system is dead and has to be reactivated by a technician with special equipment. Not a good thing when you're somewhere in the bush!! Still searching.
cheers,
Henkjan

Getting the Wheeling Fever
No need for a tech. Go to kia and get the unlock code for the sporty. There is a process you need to do to enter it. They should be able to tell you all you need.
